Safe Administration of Medication
This training course aims to help carers understand the legislation related to medication administration and how to safely administer medication. It covers the importance of confidentiality and security in all medication procedures. The course’s main learning objectives include:
- Understanding medication storage procedures
- Following safe medication administration procedures
- Correctly using a Medication Administration Record (MAR) sheet
- Understanding the importance of confidentiality and security in medication procedures
- Understanding relevant legislation, policies, and procedures for administering and handling medicines for children
- Describing common medications and their uses
- Understanding safe medication administration procedures and techniques
- Understand the risks associated with incorrect medication administration
- Learn how to read pharmacist’s labels, how to deliver, store and dispose of medication
- Explaining medication classifications, types, and routes of administration
- Describing common side-effects and adverse reactions
- Understanding the processes for receiving, storing, and disposing of medications.
- Learn how to look after children who self-medicate, how to handle an emergency
- This course aligns with the Children’s Home Quality Standards specified in The Children’s Homes Regulations (England) 2015 and Children’s Homes Quality Standards 2015.
